Family and friends. Rest and relaxation. Traveling far, or staying nearby. Fieldston students have many (much-needed) different methods of rest and relaxation this past Memorial Day Weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the last Monday each May, The United States celebrates Memorial Day, which honors and mourns the men and women of the U.S. military who died while serving our country. If you follow the news, it is actually a solemn day of remembrance for those who fought and gave their lives in generations past. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, for many of us, Memorial Day also signifies the unofficial beginning of summer, a time when the weather’s getting warmer and schools prepare to let out for the summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fieldston students spent the weekend in a variety of different ways. Bea Chukwulozie (form IV), spent the weekend participating in a swim meet at Asphalt Green on the Upper East Side. Heading into the weekend, she exclaimed, \u201cI look forward to Memorial Day because it means the end of the year and I really like summer, so it is a good time!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n

Hayden Cushing (Form IV student) headed to California to visit her grandparents for the weekend. To her,  Memorial Day \u201cis a time in my family where we spend time with each other and see people we have not seen in a long time.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n

Abigail Nadeau (Form IV) stayed in the city and caught up on some school work, spent time with her family and saw some friends over the weekend. She said she was looking forward to \u201crelaxing and getting some sun.\u201d Nadeau was able to do activities that she can\u2019t usually do throughout the school week or over a normal weekend like going on a long run in Central Park and enjoying the warm weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lily Saal (Form V) visited Las Vegas with her family, where she saw three different shows: Cirque du Soleil, Mat Franco the Magician and a Maroon Five concert. \u201cBy far, my favorite part of the trip was the Mat Franco show,\u201d Saal remarked. \u201cHe called my sister up on stage, broke her phone, made it disappear and then made it reappear 20 rows back in the audience, completely fixed! We couldn\u2019t figure out how he did it!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hopefully, all members of the Fieldston community used the weekend to rest, recharge and soak up some sun. Now, it\u2019s time for the last push towards finals and the end of the school year, before summer officially begins!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
