At the advent of the new school year, two transitions in upper school leadership\u2013from Mr. Cairo to Principal Furlonge, and from the Ben and Dachelle to the Willa and Jafi FSG presidency\u2013are at the forefront of conversation. <\/span><\/p>\n

As the fall semester ushers in these administrative and student government shifts, the student body is abounding in anticipation and spirit. The co-presidents became acquainted with the principal in August, discussing their proposals, initiatives, and objectives for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. They believe building strong rapport with the incoming Principalis will both ease the transition for Furlonge and help them work in conjunction with him to uphold Fieldston\u2019s academic mission. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>We want to make sure that our new principal, Nigel Furlonge, has a smooth transition and is able to get to know students as he begins his first year at Fieldston,\u201d said Ferrer. \u201cWe met with him in the middle of August for lunch and had a great time getting to know each other, discussing our plans for next year, and answering questions about student life and Fieldston.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

A team comprised of two sociable, community-oriented, and remarkably gifted athletes, Ferrer and Alexis are advancing with three core values in mind: inclusion, proactivity, and progressive education. \u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>In our presidency, we hope to embody Fieldston\u2019s core values of inclusion and excellence, while also mirroring our institution\u2019s dedication to progressive thinking and education.\u201d Alexis said. <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

As conveyed at the forefront of their campaign in April, the duo is adamant about reforming the \u201cacademic environment, amplifying student voices, and and improving student life and school spirit.\u201d With hopes to diversify the curriculum, rectify assessment overscheduling, and open a school store, their agenda is already teeming with ambition. <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cReforming the academic environment at Fieldston will include improvements spanning from the over scheduling of assessments to working with various coalition groups to diversify our curriculum. To improve over scheduling of assessments we plan to work with Mr. Furlonge and the head of departments to make using the assessment calendar mandatory and more easily accessible to students. We also plan to reexamine the rules on how many assessments you can have in one day with these same parties,\u201d Alexis said. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the team welcomed the class of 2022 during freshmen orientation, and are ready to engage with several of the students personally throughout the year during their weekly open-hours.<\/span>
