For a decade, the program has been helping students and recent alumni find summer job and internship opportunities. All jobs come directly from Fieldston parents, alumni, and faculty, and are available in a range of fields, including medicine, publishing, and fashion. This year, the program has expanded, with over a hundred opportunities from within the ECFS community.

This year, offers include working at a ravioli store as a graphic designer, and being an editorial intern for Fortune magazine. These are unique and exciting possibilities that students might not find elsewhere. For some students, the program has even led to future careers. Some positions are paid, some not, and some even fulfill community service hours.

Sasha Hixson (V) participated in the program last summer and thought it was really helpful. “I spent my summer volunteering at a domestic violence shelter that a parent had posted about and I had an amazing learning experience working there with all the women and their children,“ she said, “It is such a great idea because as high school students, we are not exposed to so many opportunities outside of school; this is a great way to make sure we have productive summers.”

Not only is the program enriching and fun for students, it is also enjoyed by employers. Aaron Finkel, founder of the New York Sports Connection, is excited to use the program once again to find interns for his company. “As a Fieldston parent, I’m happy to give students the opportunity to learn by doing and to give them a glimpse into the real world,” he says. “I’ve used the Fieldston Summer Jobs Program for the past two summers and am looking forward to having a Fieldston student (or two) help me grow my business.” Many students and companies have had positive experiences with the program, because it is a really great way to connect the Fieldston community.

Job offerings can be found on Moodle at the Summer Jobs and Internships page. The page, in addition to listing job opportunities, gives advice for applications such as “Job Interview Tips,” or “How to Write a Resume.” So if you have nothing to do this summer, or are looking for an opportunity to get some hands on work experience, visit Moodle and see what you can find.

The snow has finally melted and summer is just around the corner, bringing with it the Fieldston Summer Jobs and Internships program.
