{"id":10952,"date":"2024-12-18T16:35:14","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T16:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fieldstonnews.com\/home\/?p=10952"},"modified":"2024-12-18T18:37:16","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T18:37:16","slug":"all-we-want-for-christmas-is-a-cookie-to-decorate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fieldstonnews.com\/home\/2024\/12\/all-we-want-for-christmas-is-a-cookie-to-decorate\/","title":{"rendered":"All We Want For Christmas Is A Cookie to Decorate?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It\u2019s an indescribable feeling: a slight chill in the air, quiet laughter echoing the halls and an element of childish joy in every word.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the week before winter break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To celebrate the upcoming holiday season, Fieldston\u2019s Fun Times Team \u2013 the Supervisors of Fun Times Reanna Bilbao (Form VI) and Lily Burnside (Form VI) and Fieldston\u2019s Dean of Student Engagement Ruth Taveras \u2013 organized a week jam-packed with holiday cheer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The festivities kicked off on Tuesday, December 7, as students sang Mariah Carey\u2019s \u2013 \u201cIt\u2019s TIIIIIIIIIme,\u201d throughout the halls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the advisory, the juniors and freshmen participated in a gift exchange and hot chocolate party, organized by the Peer Leadership Program (PLoP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the events that took the cake (or rather the icing) were the cookie decorating and gingerbread house-building competitions during Activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a 500s classroom, different groups of students crowded around hastily combined desks. The smartboard blasted holiday favorites, and some obscure others (\u201cDo They Know It\u2019s Christmas,\u201d from \u201cDaddy\u2019s Home 2\u201d), while the competition began. Some groups chose an \u201call hands on deck\u201d approach, with multiple people working on the houses together. The two exchanged a messy, icing-stained, high-five.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXfmuxuyqGDq98jh4_-rTIJJXK08zQXJelsW7cgmsYBzet9Cf1RQIWLMtyc9fJqZtsGStWl6g0hbytXuD1MtdO2eqdqJjbJw6M85Y2hl046e5dQZVz08TmN0e6p5_Kb-TRhcpSQB?key=w1t9d6sZNDIVGZ6mJUGosM9K\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:338px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Farah Salem (Form IV) and Olivia Roman (Form IV) decorating their gingerbread house<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Some gingerbread groups weren\u2019t so successful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s getting very dramatic,\u201d said Ellie Usdin (Form VI) as she watched her gingerbread foundations crumble for the third time. \u201cThe liquidity of the frosting makes the gingerbread very unsturdy. The tables displayed a medley of materials: icing, candy, sprinkles etc. At one table, the centerpiece was an overflowing box of peppermint bark, homemade by Samantha Gold (Form V).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday we\u2019re making cookies and feeling the festive spirit of the holidays,\u201d said Ava Clark (Form VI), who utilized a lot of blue icing to decorate her gingerbread cookie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next to Clark, Hannah Greenfield (Form VI), inspired by the newest hit movie \u201cWicked,\u201d decorated two cookies as Elphaba and Glinda, the movie\u2019s main characters.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdY8GtkVVDU0o3tZMnD6CizyJDi6ObEKDbYcElbXawbVydPSm9n2hPLYSPbdrk1Vqcdbw7cbPZ1iWI3ij6xrn1agtK4w0J34GnYTaMDxL85vyhopBZ-T09OtwUzK-0OJhdQWLzlMg?key=w1t9d6sZNDIVGZ6mJUGosM9K\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:305px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&#8220;Wicked&#8221; cookies, by Hannah Greenfield (Form VI)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>To keep the cookie decorators focused (or unfocused depending on the song), students came up to the screen at the front and sang karaoke songs. For the classics \u2013 like \u201cLast Christmas,\u201d by Wham! \u2013 the entire Commons sang along, waving their hands and icing packets in the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India Haberkern (Form IV) saw the cookie decorating as an opportunity to connect. \u201cIt was a great way to see people from school that I don\u2019t see throughout the day and to bond with people from other grades.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taveras added, \u201cI just appreciate the way everyone came together, especially this year.
