HEY HEY HEY! The amazing Taylor Swift is back at it again. On November 1st, 2022 she announced her Era’s Tour, a showcase spanning 17 years of her music. Including her 10 “eras,” from Debut all the way up to her newest new album Midnights. Swift’s tour has conquered the United States and will soon be dominating the world, as her international tour will resume in late October. She has 146 shows planned over 5 continents. Not only will her tour generate 4.1 billion dollars, but on top of that she recently released The Eras Tour Movie on October 13th. She filmed 3 of her shows at SoFi stadium in Los Angeles, compiled them together and made a movie for her Swifties in the States and in Canada to watch. So today we’ll be letting you guys know what we thought, and if we think you should run as fast as you can to your nearest movie theater to go see it. Are you ready for it?!
Tickets to the Eras tour were absurdly hard to obtain, so many fans were left heartbroken and empty-handed. So, many Swifties logged on to TikTok every weekend to watch a shaky live stream of the concert from a random fan’s phone. They cried about surprise songs that they didn’t get to hear and chanted the Cruel Summer bridge at the top of their lungs. It was for these fans that the movie was made. Swifties began to suspect the making of an Eras Tour Film when they spotted cameras onstage during the Los Angeles concerts. Their suspicions were confirmed when Swift announced that there was an official Eras Tour movie and that fans could get tickets on the AMC website. Countless fans purchased tickets, including people who hadn’t gotten to see the Eras Tour Concert yet, as well as people who had seen her live and wanted to relive the experience.
The Eras Tour movie fully encompasses the spirit of Swift’s tour which opens with the phrase “It’s been a long time coming” from her song Miss Americana and the Heart-Break Prince. This signifies exactly what Swifties feels when seeing her on stage since the last time she toured was for her 2018 reputation stadium tour (it’s gorgeous and on Netflix. We recommend that you go watch it!) The movie proceeds to go through the concert, following pretty closely to the real experience. However, there were a few songs that were cut, in an effort to make the movie shorter, which made Our Tears Ricochet. These include “The Archer,” “No Body, No Crime (featuring HAIM),” “Long Live,” “Wildest Dreams,” “Cardigan” and “The Seven Interlude.” Swift also shortened many of the transitions between eras.
When it got to the infamous acoustic set of the tour (also known as surprise song o’clock) the entire movie theater began freaking out. Taylor started out with the beloved “Our Song” from the debut era as an homage to all of her fans. Then, she sat down at the piano and started playing “You’re On Your Own Kid,” one of her most heart-wrenching and career-encompassing songs.
Upon arrival at the movie theater, fans received a small poster with a picture of Taylor Swift on it, and an option to buy popcorn inside of a Taylor Swift bucket and a drink inside of a Taylor Swift cup. The movie theaters were crowded and filled with excited fans wearing elaborate costumes with big buckets of buttery popcorn. When the countdown appeared on the screen people began cheering and counting down from 13. The iconic concert intro began causing people to bustle with excitement. Some theaters were quieter, where people stayed in their seats and sang softly, while others were louder, with people screaming, dancing and filming the screen.
Adélaïde: “At my theater, a lot of us went to the back to dance and sing together. During “Style”, my friend and I started a conga line down the aisles. When she started playing “You’re On Your Own Kid”I fully fell on the ground freaking out.”
Mia: My theater was also pretty quiet, and my 12-year-old cousin and I were definitely the loudest ones there. We wore our Era’s tour concert shirts and flannel pajama pants. We drew 13s on our hands with eyeliner and colored them in with eyeshadow. Although we purchased a large Taylor Swift popcorn bucket, we barely had time to eat it since we sang the whole time.
Overall, the movie was enchanting and we recommend that you watch it, especially if you weren’t able to get tickets to the concert.
