This year the sophomore class took a trip to Boston after not having the trip in three years due to Covid-19 restrictions. This trip was inspired by the sophomore English class read, Walden, by Henry David Thoreau. Exploring Boston and Concord in Massachusetts offered students the perfect opportunity to explore why Thoreau wrote his classic meditation on nature. After interviewing a few students, they all seemed to have the same critiques; we spent more time on the bus than we did in Boston. When asked about the trip, a few of my friends said that they had fun on the trip but wished we spent more time at the places we visited and that the trip seemed a little rushed. After talking to a few more students they all gave similar answers, so I decided to have a brief interview with Form IV FSG representative Reanna Bilbao to get her opinions on the Boston trip.
Patrick Kisling: Reanna as a representative of Form IV what were your thoughts on the Boston trip and how it was formatted?
Reanna Bilbao: I think that it was good considering the trip hadn’t happened in 3 years. I thought the trip had a lot to offer to us, but I also thought that we spent more time on the bus than in Boston itself.
PK: Thank you for your honesty, was there anything you think we could have done better?
RB: I think we could have had more time to walk around the casual streets of Boston. I wanted more time to look at the memorials and landmarks. But overall, I thought the trip was a success.
PK: I know some students have complained about game night, what are your thoughts on it?
RB: Honestly, I think the game night was a total flop. The whole grade in a conference room, with about 5 tour guides trying to calm down a bunch of teenagers…big mistake.
PK: Final question, Toot Or Boot the Boston Trip? Toot meaning you liked it or boot meaning you disliked the trip.
RB: Toot because I got to spend time with my friends.
After speaking with Reanna and the other students they all seemed to have enjoyed the trip and are excited for the rising sophomores to have the experiences that they had on the trip. In my opinion, I would also say that the trip was an overall success and there were a few things that could be improved on but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
