This year the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team has had an amazing start to their season. The team is coached by GloriAnne DiToro and Leslie Spalding who have been excited and have high hopes for this year’s team. After speaking to senior midfielder Lillian Sen, she said, “The coaches are great and their different styles add a really good dynamic.”
Despite the fact that this is the girl’s first real season since COVID and it is almost a completely different roster, they already have a great connection on the field. The girl’s team is led by senior captains Sophia Hoehler, Eve Shulman, Olivia Bagan and Abby Trapp. These girls have helped lead this team and bring them together on and off the field.
Senior captain and midfielder/attacker Sophia Hoehler said “our team chemistry improves most when we are not on the field, but then that bonding carries over to the field.” Lillian Sen also said, “Our chemistry is good because off the field we are friends and on the field, everyone really knows each other’s strong points while playing.”
The Girl’s Lacrosse Team has started off their season 6-1, and their most recent win came on Wednesday, April,13th as they beat Riverdale at Van Cortlandt Park, 16-4.
This team has many great players and they have a lot of depth within their bench, but some of their standout players this season have been seniors Sophia Hoehler, Olivia Bagan, Emma Gordon, Abby Trapp, Eve Shulman, Isa Audi, and Sophomores Susie Audi and Caroline Morris. These seven players have helped push the team to their six wins this season.
The team has been challenged many times throughout the season with recent injuries for seniors Miki Turtel and Jess Becker, but they have still been able to fight through the adversity and continue their winning streak. Sadly, goalie Miki Turtel was injured on Monday, but while they wait for her to come back and fully recover the rest of the team has stepped up in her absence. During the game against Riverdale on Wednesday the defense and freshman goalie Maya Ornstein stepped up and only allowed four goals. They allowed their high-powered offense, which is averaging around thirteen goals a game, to do what they do best; score.
This team has a lot of talent all throughout the roster and they not only have an amazing chance to win the Ivy League, but also win NYSAIS.
