The swim team is off to a new start. Many factors of the swim team are different this year: the new head coach Pam Opdyke, new potential, and new strength. The swim team begins a new year with more focus, effort, and intensity.

Varsity swim had their first meet on Wednesday, December 3. Pam Opdyke, head coach, who worked as an after school swimming teacher in the lower school for 10-years, hopes to build a strong team culture. She is focused on teaching the team to work and push each other. She believes that effort and gaining experience will make the team very strong.

Through all of the seven events of the swim meet, FVS swam very strong. FVS received one first place for the girls in the fifth event, and multiple second places for the boys in the first, second, third, and fourth events.

David Fishman (VI) was somewhat happy with the meet, but believes that FVS has a long way to go. He explained to me that the swimmers dives were slow and their turns were sloppy. However, he said, he saw potential for the first time in his four years on FVS, and he was optimistic.

Matt Gibson (VI) was also proud of FVS, and believes that the more practice the team gets, the farther they will go. He expressed what a great job Pam has been doing by making the practices more intense.

Jacqueline Weitz (IV) explained to me that she was happy with this meet, however the team needs to start being more dedicated and come to more practices.

Finally, Ben Kaeser (VI) talked about how he was happy with the meet results. He thinks that the team has to be more focused, and follow the coach’s instructions in order to do well.

Varsity swim has started off the year on the right foot! With head coach Pam Opdyke leading the way, FVS began swim this year ready to put in more focus, intensity, and effort. With a bit more dedication and effort, the team will forge ahead.
