FIELDSTON, NEW YORK – Following the annual presentation honoring the seniors of the Fieldston Varsity Basketball Team, Poly Prep came out hot against Fieldston’s all-senior starting five, leading 12-3 before Fieldston Head Coach John Dwinell took a timeout. The Blue Devils seemed to be running away with a 34-12 lead, featuring five made three-pointers, midway through the second quarter, before the Eagles slightly closed the gap to reach a 38-25 deficit at halftime.
The second half was no different, though, as Poly Prep wasted no time extending its lead to 54-33 by the end of the third quarter. The rest of the game was all downhill for the Eagles, as the Blue Devils ended the game on a 22-11 run, winning 73-44.
The Eagles never got going on offense, mostly because Poly Prep continued to apply heavy pressure. The Eagles, who didn’t lead once, committed 14 turnovers, led by guard Ian Barkan (Form V) with three, and fouled Poly Prep 12 times including three from forward Sam Bienvenu (Form V), and allowed the Blue Devils to grab ten offensive rebounds. Poly Prep hit eight three-pointers as well.
Forwards Ellis Lynch-Kahn (Form VI) and Lincoln Steinkamp (Form IV) lead the Eagles with ten points apiece. Lynch-Kahn, fresh off of reaching 1,000 career points at Fieldston, was less efficient than usual, shooting just 4-17 from the field, 0-6 from three and 2-5 from the free throw line. The senior added six rebounds and two assists. Steinkamp’s ten points came off 4-6 from the field, 2-4 from beyond the arc, with a rebound and an assist as well.
The Eagles fell to a record of 9-13. Their next game is against Hunter College High School at Collegiate on Thursday afternoon.
