As the leaves of the oak trees on the quad fall in warm red and orange tones, it is safe to say that autumn is upon us. Although there are countless garments for sale to keep warm, it is difficult to find ones that are affordable, chic and practical. I took it upon myself to find ten of the best staple cardigans, sweaters, jackets and coats under $50. This fall gear adds variety to one’s wardrobe and personal style, perfect for everything from a nice walk in Central Park to a long school day. Take a look at the following steals compared to their expensive counterparts to  make your wildest fall fit fantasies into a reality:

  1. Zipper Crop Cardigan – (Mango) Sale-$25.99 vs Quarter-Zip Cashmere Sweater (Saks Fifth Avenue) $330

The Saks Fifth Avenue sweater’s cashmere material increases its price, value and quality. With its less expensive alternative, one can get the same look (if not cuter) for over $300 less.

2. Kimchi Blue Rachel Cardigan (Urban Outfitters) $39 vs The Dani Cashmere Cardigan (Joe’s Jeans) $228

Given the sudden popularity of the classic red cardigan, it would be a crime not to include the adorable fall trend in this article. This Urban Outfitters one has a hint of sparkle – a perfect addition to an already chic sweater.

3. Prince Rugby Stripe (Lioness) Sale-$30 vs Harris Collared Sweater (Rails) $238

A rugby sweater can truly be paired with anything and still look exquisite. This one from Lioness is oversized, providing warmth and style.

4. Puffer Jacket (Hollister) Sale-$48.97 vs. Stand Collar Puffer Jacket (Sam Edeleman) Sale-$89.99

Jackets are without a doubt the most important item to keep warm from the cold, which is why it is absurd for one to have to pay $89.99 when you could get one for nearly half as much! The Hollister puffer jacket features cozy-lined pockets and interior, as well as wind and water resistant fabric.

5. Rib-Knit Off-The-Shoulder Sweater (H&M) $29.99 vs Off-The-Shoulder Sweater (Abercrombie & Fitch) $70

While both sweaters provide a sophisticated look and color, the H&M one is mainly composed of polyester while  the Abercrombie & Fitch one is acrylic. While acrylic is softer than polyester, the latter material is known to last longer, proving that the H&M sweater holds more value for use.

6. Sugar Plum Wrap (Free People) $48 vs. The Fuz Charcoal Grey Wrap Sweater Top (RVCA) $75

The Free People wrap is lightweight and an excellent final touch to any outfit because it can simply be tied over a tank top to provide an extra layer of warmth.

7. Buttoned Soft Coat (Zara) $49.90 vs Metropolitan Coat – Soft Wool Cashmere (Aritzia) $375

Source: Zara                                                 Source: Aritzia

The Aritzia coat is priced an exuberant amount higher since it is real cashmere but both display elegance. In addition, the Zara coat comes in a variety of five different colors and shades, while the Aritzia one only has two.

8. Marshmallow Moves Turtleneck Sweater (OFFLINE by Aerie) Sale-$45.46 vs. Cecile Turtleneck in Cashmere (Alex Mill) $325

The Aerie turtleneck is fuzzy and soft, and a great alternative if one wants to maintain the same color and style of the turtleneck but is not willing to splurge $325.

9. Oversized Crew Neck Sweater (ASOS) $42.99 vs. Cashmere & Cotton Sweater (Chloé) $2,090

Although the Chloé crewneck is real cashmere and refined, the different styles and patterns of the ASOS one are vibrant and fun, appealing to a younger generation.

10. BB Dakota Hood Vibrations Pullover (Anthropologie) Sale-$19.95 vs. Sherpa Snow Angel Puffer (Alo) $228

Source: Anthropologie                                        Source: Alo

Since both puffers are made completely of polyester, it is simply unnecessary for the Alo one to be selling for over $200 more. The only reason for this price can be attributed to the sporty and desirable reputation the athleisure company has built for itself. At the end of the day, the buyer should ask themself if a trendy label is worth more than a good deal.
