We are thrilled to be running for co-presidents of the school! Since Freshman year, we have been looking forward to this opportunity and we wholeheartedly believe that our leadership would take Fieldston to new heights. One of our highest priorities is that all students feel welcomed and heard, and although we already have some ideas of what we would potentially change, the concerns and thoughts of the student body would shape our leadership; we would work tirelessly to create a school environment that represents all of us. We know that we are not representing just ourselves or our grade, but every single student in this community.
One of our first initiatives as presidents would be creating an in-school thrift store. We know how busy all of you guys are with just school alone. We spend hours here every day, giving us little time to engage in some of our other hobbies and interests. We also know how important fashion is to so many of you. Having a thrift store at school would save so much time for everyone. The school thrift store would operate in a designated location with organized shifts open to any volunteers. Imagine you’re just chilling with your friends during a free period and you see a hoodie that you’ve wanted for months. You walk a few steps and go buy it. You didn’t have to travel across the city on the weekend or order it online. In fact, you could literally see something you like in the thrift store, walking from Biology to History, and buy it on the spot (and the price would probably please your parents). The thrift store would not only be extremely convenient, but also create a space that brings people together.
On day one, we would present a proposal to keep breakfast open until after advisory. We know how many of you get here minutes before school starts and don’t have time to go to the cafeteria. In between your first period class and advisory, you could go quickly to the cafeteria, get breakfast, and then eat during advisory. More on food, we would advocate for as high a discount as possible from off-campus food places. We have some good ideas about how to sell this to these places that value our business so much.
Thank you, and vote Alex Babej and Mateo Massar for FSG!
