Winter break is a time for students and faculty to wind down. Everyone challenges themselves throughout the year and deserves a break from the demands of school. Whether traveling worldwide or staying local, this two-week hiatus provides a refreshing pause from the everyday grind.
This year, warmer journeys were more common than cold destinations. Some people explored South and Central America and embarked on holiday hikes. Gabi Ayestis (Form III) traveled to Puterico for the whole break “I spent time with my family at our house,” she said.
Not to mention Christmas and Hanukkah coincided this year, creating the perfect Chrismukkah for families to celebrate together! With presents under the tree or bush, both holidays brought warm smiles and joyful laughter, whether at the beach by the crashing waves or on the slopes. For those staying home, the comforts of winter break awaited: getting onto a cozy couch in a fuzzy, warm blanket with a crackling fire or sipping hot chocolate while watching a comfort movie.
So, how did people spend their winter break? Did they ski, swim, sail, shop or snooze? Nikki Levine (Form III) says, “I went to London with my mom. In London, we went sightseeing and shopping. Soon after, I went to Florida where we visited family and hung by the beach. I enjoyed this 2024-25 winter vacation, but I’m glad to be back in the city.”
Georgina Morris (Form III) says, “I visited Florida to see my grandparents and spent time with my sister.” She also spent time by the pool and went to dinner.
“I spent my winter vacation by going to my sister’s house in the Boston area and skiing in Vermont! I don’t ski, but my kids love it, and I love hot chocolate by the fire,” said Anthony Marro, the Form III Dean.
Whether on a sunny beach, snowy mountain, or at home in New York, winter break is the perfect time to wind down and enjoy a relaxing pause from reality. With finals only a week after returning to school, remember to make the most of your time off.
