Hey Fieldston! Our names are Rachel Stulman and Judah Goren and we are so excited to be running to be your next FSG Co-Presidents!
We could start off by introducing ourselves for those who don’t know us, but it doesn’t really matter who we are because our platform is all about YOU. We are committed to being honest, transparent and giving you countless opportunities to tell us what YOU want to see at our school. As much as we would love to move finals to before break or have breakfast open all morning, those proposals just aren’t probable. Instead, we have come up with a list of initiatives that we truly believe we can accomplish and are already in motion.
In order to foster open and frequent communication between the FSG and the rest of the community, we will hold monthly open forums (Parks and Rec style) with each grade to give you an opportunity to express any wants and concerns. We know other candidates propose sending out Google Forms, but an online feedback form is no replacement for in-person, face to face communication. Not only will you be given opportunities to communicate with us, but there will also be a monthly column in the Fieldston News where we update you on what we’ve been working on. There will be no more wondering, “What do FSG Presidents even do?”
Now onto something we know is widely desired at Fieldston: ranking course selection. We plan to continue the work of the current FSG Co-Presidents and implement this as soon as possible! Another thing we can all agree on? School spirit is lacking and should not only thrive on homecoming, winter fest, or playoff games. While “Friday night lights” may not be possible, there are other ways to increase school spirit, such as themed Friday home games and merch prizes based on game attendance.
Lastly, we all know that the forms often feel divided at Fieldston, even more so if you aren’t on a varsity team or in a school production. In order to strengthen relationships between grades and tighten the school community, we plan to pair every 9th advisory with an 11th grade advisory, and every 10th grade advisory with a 12th grade advisory. Having inter-grade paired advisories that meet every two weeks will bring the community together and allow new students and freshmen to meet upperclassmen.
We are striving for a community where everyone feels heard, connected and prioritized, and look forward to being your next FSG Co-Presidents!
Rachel & Judah
