“It is the best day ever. So was yesterday, and so is tomorrow.” While here Barbie is speaking of life in Barbieland, you could be saying the same thing about life in Fieldston land with Wesley Mitchell and Noor Hassan as your next FSG co-presidents! When we started planning our campaign, we realized that we wanted to streamline our platform to one primary goal, but were not sure what. All we knew was that we wanted to make sure our campaign was without empty promises of impossible proposals, and we wanted to make sure we were focused on the students. With those things in mind, we came up with the idea of Universal Representation.
Firstly, we want to make sure that all students are heard and acknowledged. For this, we do not plan to promise a radically new structure of Fieldston, but to create small additions that can add up to real change. These include new cabinet positions like Secretaries of Finals, Fundraising, and DEI, and new affinity spaces such as Female-Identifying Leadership, Middle Eastern, and First-Generation groups.
Secondly, we plan to focus on improving Universal Representation for all opinions at Fieldston. The best educational setting is one where differing opinions and beliefs have room to emerge and be interrogated, which is something we feel Fieldston sometimes needs improvement in. We want all sides of issues able to be explored in the classroom discussions and materials, and in assemblies and the overall community.
Finally, we plan to make sure all interests are represented and expanded. The Fun stuff..of course!!
- Fostering an enthusiastic student body
- Themed games and Friday night light games
- Creating a Fieldston News LIVE channel
- Interviews, weekly news updates, and podcast-style debates
- Creating days for Upper School bonding
- Field days, color wars, and assassin games across all grades
- Underclassmen networking
- More opportunities for underclassmen to meet upperclassmen during transition periods
- Bolstering more Student performances
- Student performances in talent show assemblies and expanded performances for existing student groups
With these additions to the school, we feel confident in strengthening Universal Representation for ALL students, ALL opinions, and ALL interests. With Noor arriving in third grade, and Wesley in sixth, we both truly have so much love for this school and community, and hope to make it even greater for all members.
