This fall, Form IV students elected two new FSG Form representatives: Jahdiel Mattis and Niya Kapahi, who will represent the 10th graders as the grade reps for the rest of the school year. We sat down with them to discuss their initiatives.
Annabel Farmakis:
“What activities or events do you have planned for our grade this year?”
Niya Kapahi:
“It would be so exciting and fun to have a pep rally for every season, not just fall, to promote school spirit and give other varsity teams the same opportunities for dances and games.”
Charlotte Wulfsohn:
How can students in our grade get involved in school activities?
Jahdiel Mattis:
“I think kids in our grade can get more involved in school activities by actively seeking out clubs, sports, and other classes that fit their interests and needs. Attending sports games, joining a new club, and connecting with new community members can help you do those things as well. Volunteering for committees or leadership roles within existing clubs can also deepen engagement and allow kids and even teachers in the community to contribute their skills and ideas, connecting us all. But at the end of the day, it’s really up to them, and that’s what’s so amazing about our community – individuals have the freedom to shape their own experiences.”
Annabel Farmakis:
“How can we contribute ideas to make our grades experience better?”
Niya Kapahi:
“Soon, we are going to release a Google form. This Google form is still in the works, but the idea is that it would get released towards the beginning of every month. (The reason for that time frame is that we meet with the other FSGs at the end of the month.) The form will be for the grade to tell us about their questions, comments and concerns. When this gets released, we HIGHLY encourage our grade to fill this out so we can address concerns as fast as possible to create a better and more fun environment for all. As a sneak peek, we discussed in our first meeting about bringing ping-pong tables back and foosball, along with more food and snacks.”
Charlotte Wulfsohn:
“Do you have any tips for a successful and enjoyable experience in high school?”
Niya Kapahi:
“I can’t speak for everyone; however, I highly encourage people to be themselves and embrace the ups and downs of high school. Try not to dwell on things, no matter how rough they get. I try to tell myself and others, “Will you even remember this in a year?” or if it will still matter by then. Adults always say your 4 years of high school go by so quickly, and I agree. To wrap this up, focus on having fun and enjoy every minute of high school because happiness will always be the key to enjoyment.”
