When one GOAT met another, two worlds collided and America found its own “royal couple.” Taylor Swift, the global pop star and twelve-time Grammy award winner, met Travis Kelce, the famous NFL tight end and two-time Super Bowl champion, and they began one of the most publicized relationships ever.
Timeline of Relationship:
July 7/8th, 2023: Taylor Swift performed at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. Travis Kelce attended and afterward, on his podcast, New Heights, Travis said, “I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings. So I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.” Later, it was revealed he attempted to give Swift a bracelet with his number on it! Fans speculate this is where the budding romance began.
September 21, 2023: Rumors started swirling and Kelce let it slip to the public that he invited Swift to one of his games. On The Pat McAfee Show he revealed, “I told her, you know, ‘I’ve seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead [Stadium], you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one’s a little more lit.’”
September 24, 2023: Swift takes him up on the offer and cheers on Kelce and the Chiefs on their home turf – Arrowhead Stadium. After spending time in the suite with Donna Kelce, the famous mother of the Kelce boys, Swift and Kelce were spotted leaving together in a convertible. “Getaway Car” perhaps?
October 1, 2023: Swift attends her second Chiefs game at Metlife stadium in a star-studded suite. The celebs included were: Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sophie Turner, Brittany Mahomes and more! In the post-game press conference, a grinning Kelce commented on the media whirlwind, “As all the attention comes, it feels like, you know, I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now I’m even more on top of the world.” All across the world, Swifties (the name of Swift’s fan base) swooned!
October 14/15: Swift and Kelce were spotted on back-to-back date nights, which included a surprise stop at SNL where they both had cameos. Kelce joined at the end of a sketch teasing the obnoxious amount of publicity and Swift introduced Ice Spice, her friend and former musical collaborator.
October 22nd: Swift attends another one of Kelce’s games and is seen dancing with Brittany Mahomes, wife of star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
But, where does Fieldston stand?
Some students, mostly avid supporters of the NFL, are not big fans of the Taylor/Travis relationship. While all wanted to remain anonymous – after all, Swifites are known for their quick protectiveness of “Mother” (their nickname for Swift) – a general consensus concluded that the relationship is an unnecessary PR scheme. “Taylor just wants to sell more music and more tickets,” said one Form V student. Agreeing, a Form VI student said, “Their relationship is ruining the NFL.” In response to these claims Maya Ornstein (Form V), a self-proclaimed Swiftie said, “That’s garbage. She’s helping the NFL, and their viewership is going up because of her.” Ornstein also disagrees with the claim of a PR stunt, after all, “You could say that about any one of her relationships because she always dates famous people and it always improves their career. It’s ridiculous.” Alkis Karmpaliotis (Form V) is not a Swiftie per-se, but “respects Taylor Swift as an artist and likes some of her songs.” “Cardigan” is his personal favorite. Karmpaliotis agrees with Ornstein and respects Kelce, saying, “Travis publicly shot his shot and that’s commendable. I want to believe he’s doing it for the right reasons, and not just for publicity.”
Swift and Kelce are everywhere, everyone is talking about them, especially with all the media rabidly following them. Are Taylor and Travis endgame? Time will tell. Till then Swift will be attending games, celebrating with Brittany Mahomes and cheering for her favorite tight end. Kelce will be attending concerts and maybe this time Swift will accept his bracelet! Ornstein leaves one piece of advice for Kelce, “Don’t break her heart or she’ll write a song about you.”
