BVS Revenge Tour 2023: NYSAIS, Here We Come

3 mins read

Coming off a highly controversial loss in the 2022 NYSAIS Championships, and a hard-fought 2nd Place Ivy League finish, Fieldston’s Boys Varsity Soccer (BVS) is ready for a revenge campaign. Led by captains Lamine Camara, Santo Raggiri, and Ryder Park, the team is, at the time of writing, 2-2 with emphatic wins over Dalton and Avenues and losses to Hackley and Poly Prep. The team has a long season to come, as they are yet to face rivals Riverdale and are slated to play at Horace Mann’s homecoming.

This coming season is also one of transition for the team, with twelve seniors leaving the team. Many of these players like Jedd Horowitz, Andre Dangot, Nate Abrams, Emmett Levine, and Lucas Melendez among others, were critical starters. Only three seniors are on the team this year, with the majority of the squad being either sophomores or juniors.

Captain Santo Raggiri (Form V) looks forward to the season: “BVS is one of Fieldston’s best programs and we will always be competing for first place in the Ivy League and NYSAIS.”

Ryder Park, one of BVS’s captains and most impactful players, echoed Raggiri’s thoughts: “We have great players, so I have no doubt we can go far this year, we just have to find our rhythm. I’ve been on the team for three years now, and despite the players that we’ve lost, we’re looking the strongest we ever have. Players are stepping up and I’m looking forward to what we can do.”

Captain Lamine Camara (Form VI) had bittersweet insights about playing his senior season, “The last year is always the most meaningful. You don’t know what you have until you know you are going to lose it, so it’s definitely tough knowing that each game is one of my last.”

There is a real buzz around BVS this year, with seniors like Camara and others leading the way and working with a talented group of juniors and sophomores. And while it has been a tough start, BVS is primed for another season of Ivy League dominance.

NYSAIS, here we come.
