Fieldston’s Ultimate Frisbee team is a part of Fieldston’s competitive spring sports program. The team is driven by the prior season’s successes; as the defending city and state champs, they’re looking for a repeat.
Last year’s season started off a little rocky with a 1-2 regular season, yet the team made a comeback, beating the two top two teams to win the Disc NY City Championship. This season the team is 4-0 in the regular season and has three remaining games (Stuyvesant, Beacon, and Brooklyn Tech).
The Fieldston Frisbee team is coached by Coach Drybala, and Coach Zaj, and led by Team captains Isaac Holtz (Form VI), Will Chesney (Form VI), Theo Chalker (Form VI), and Emmett Levine (Form VI). This season the team has eight seniors, 10 returning players, and eight new athletes.
Saturday the 28th, the A and B teams traveled to Middletown Connecticut to participate in the Middletown Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. At the annual tournament, the Eagles went 1-2 losing to the 1st and 2nd place teams. During the tournament, Louis Barton (V) and Dexter Goldberg (V) both had great games and offer hope for the team’s future. The two have a great connection and greatly contribute to the team’s success. Will Chesny says, “Louis and Dexter’s friendship off the field carries into their connection during our games”.
The team culture, dynamic, and spirit of the game differentiate Frisbee from the other spring teams. Ultimate Frisbee operates on an honor code system with no refs. Chalker says, “The ultimate frisbee is a team based on respect and honor for players and games you play in. The program produces young players capable of confronting adversity on and off the field whether it be through a contested foul call or dealing with a sore winner.”
The team is excited to wrap up the rest of the season, as they look to bring home another City Championship and State title.
