Cassidy Hibbert and Amiri Moreno for FSG!

7 mins read

What up Eagles!

We’re Cassidy Hibbert and Amiri Moreno and we are so excited to be in the running for your next FSG co-presidents. You might know us from our shirtless runs through the pep rallies (Amiri) and our seemingly permanent residencies on Fieldston’s JV sports teams (Cassidy), but hopefully, you can also know us as your future presidents. As we – short attention spanned students – understand, you might not want to read this long-winded layout of our goals as presidents (even though we are super funny), we’ve highlighted our main points in orange!

We want you to know that when you elect us as your next FSG co-presidents, we will do everything in our power to make next year all about YOU! Let’s start with the fun stuff: We all know just how much Amiri loves pep rally, I mean who doesn’t enjoy watching the football team show you just how much their hips do not lie! But why not spread the love to our winter and spring teams? We want to introduce a second pep rally into our agenda to do just that. On the sports note, remember how much fun that Riverdale hockey game was? We want to work with our supervisors of fun times to breathe new life into our school spirit and bring back big sports games! Not a sports fan? Do not fear, Cass and Amiri are here. We want to incorporate more fun into day-to-day life here at Fieldston. Haven’t you ever walked into the commons and wondered what fun things could be done with all of that empty space? Well, probably not, but we have. We want to speak to administrators about getting PingPong, Foosball, and Chess Tables in the commons for students to use during frees. For the senior class, we’d also organize a grade-wide game of what’s most commonly known as senior assassin.” Some of you may remember the slightly smaller game that Cassidy orchestrated in 7th grade (major success, by the way). One super fun thing that the class of 2024 has been doing since freshman year that we want to extend throughout the highschool are advisory challenges. These are fun little form-wide competitions in which each advisory acts as a team and tries to beat the other advisories in any given task. There will always be rewards for the winning advisories, and who doesn’t love a little lighthearted competition! (it’s not at all lighthearted, we all take it very seriously.)

Now, for the slightly less fun, but still equally exciting portion of our initiatives! Here, we want to talk about all of the ways in which we would make YOU feel heard. As well as making sure to be available for anyone who wants to meet with us to ask any questions, voice any concerns, or just hang out with us because we’re super cool people, we want to make a system for students to anonymously share with us, without having to go out of their comfort zone in any way.

Do you have a club that you wished you signed up for but didn’t? We plan to create a system for you to live vicariously through their members and see what they’ve been doing lately. This platform would allow clubs, student organizations and affinity groups to share what they’ve been up to with the community! We also want to create more ways for incoming freshmen to connect with current high schoolers to help make the transition into high school that much easier. While we are very big fans of the Junior Peer Mentor program (shoutout Suarez advisory! (hi guys pls vote for me)) and all of the good it does, we want to modify it slightly to amplify all of its benefits. We know just how difficult finals week is for everyone, and we are strong advocates for a mental health day after finals week so we can rest these wonderful brains of ours.  Are you tired of getting heaps of announcement emails every day? We want to introduce a new cabinet position, secretary of super cool student-run morning announcements! You know how every early 2000’s high school movie has daily morning announcements? Kind of like that. Basically, you can be Fieldston’s very own Radio Rebel.

And finally, our cafeteria initiatives! We want to start by speaking to all of the wonderful people that are responsible for putting breakfast and lunch together for us daily about extending breakfast hours to 9:30 am. We also want to start a very exciting conversation about getting another toaster!  Nobody enjoys waiting fifteen minutes to toast a bagel, so we hope to cut that time and clutter in half. We want to make life easier for YOU in any way we can. Because no one likes the treacherous walk to Menchies and back, and we all love fro-yo, or in the inspirational words of Liv and Maddie, “Frozen yogurt is my favorite treat, Sweet and yummy, froyo’s all I eat.” Remember that Fro-Yo machine that worked for about a week? (you probably don’t tbh) We want to bring that back! We hope that at least some of these initiatives excite you, and we hope we are deserving of your vote!

See you at the polls!
