An Amazing Week One for Fieldston Football

4 mins read

The Fieldston Eagles started their season off on Saturday afternoon against Hackley with a dominant 27-2 win. This was a very important game for the Eagles not only because it was a revenge game for the Eagles after two tough losses to Hackley  last season but also because it was a huge league win and it “made a  statement” to the rest of the league that Fieldston Football is ready this season.

After major losses to the team after key seniors graduated last year and another key player transferred many new players would have to step up and fill in. That is exactly what they did last week. Despite the fact that the Eagles have a new offensive line this year and they struggled in the first half of the game they were able to turn it around in the second half from the leadership of the three  captains: seniors Chase Mitchell, Quincy Levitt and Declan Semler.

Junior starting Quarterback Wes Heiman threw two touchdown passes and had an eighty yard touchdown run. Senior Running Back Jaden Mena scored in the endzone with a solid pass from from Wes Heiman, which was the first touchdown of the game. Mena also helped the Eagles with five carries for sixty-five yards and his longest run was fifty-three yards.

Junior Fullback Blake Koons was also among the many that scored on Saturday with a third quarter rushing touchdown. Senior captain and starting Tight End Jackson Fauvre had a third quarter receiving touchdown and averaged sixteen and a half yards per reception during the game. Jackson did not only have a great day on the offensive side of the ball he was also a force on the defensive side of the ball as the starting outside linebacker. He forced and recovered a fumble.

On Saturday the entire defense had an amazing game and helped the offense by forcing a shutout with multiple fourth down stops in the red zone.

Despite the Eagles amazing performance against Hackley they have their sights set on their next opponent, Montclair Kimberley Academy. Jaden Mena  said “I feel confident. I feel like the energy among the team is great. We got a lot of confidence going forward and we got guys like Chase Mitchell being able to play the whole game this time. I know they cannot guard us and that is what we are going to show this coming Saturday. It is really a mismatch. They have my thoughts and prayers”. When Jackson was asked “how do you feel about this Saturday’s game, he said “I feel really good about this Saturday. I think we are only going to keep getting better from week one. Their Defensive Backs and Linebackers cannot guard our receivers and I think that will show on Saturday. Get ready for another blowout!”

The Eagles are ready to defend the nest this Saturday at 1:00pm.
