Hi! We are Kiara (she/her) and Rex (he/him) and we are excited to announce that we are running for FSG!! We got to know each other well through STS 7 where we were co-leaders. We understand what it means to work collaboratively and develop plans that will not only elevate but prioritize student’s needs. We are both extremely invested in our community and are currently members of the tour team. Rex is a co-captain of Boys Tennis and a club leader and Kiara is an active member of a number of affinity spaces, including being a leader of the Latinx affinity group and a liaison between affinity spaces and AAL, which focuses on intersectionality and activism.

Our first initiative will be to introduce the following cabinet positions. First, we want to include a secretary of interdisciplinary education. This student will work closely with the other secretaries to ensure that we are withholding Fielston’s mission to understand education through an intersectional lens. Next, we wanted to introduce a board of students dedicated to student life and programs. This would include planning ALPs, assemblies, MADs, FADs, club fairs, etc. We want to emphasize community and trust within the student body. Working collaboratively and developing transparency is a core tenet of our running.

We would also like to introduce a Culture Day which would uplift and highlight our diverse student body. Similar to an ALP day, students would be able to lead activities and classes representing their own unique culture that is not often discussed in standard courses. Culture Day would be a place for our school to commit to social justice—students would be able to talk about issues pertaining to human rights by holding discussions and being active learners. Students have communicated their frustration with not having spaces to hold discussions pertaining to complex issues, and culture day would be a place to do this outside of assembly. Rex has helped plan the Adler Symposium for the past years, and we will aim to take knowledge from service learning and transfer it into action.

We have also been working to implement ranked course selections for upperclassmen. Currently, students select three choices for English and History in no specific order. By creating a ranked system, we would be able to help maximize students’ abilities to take advantage of their diverse education at Fieldston.

Lastly, we want to bring back school spirit! This would include reviving the school store to include not only snacks of your choosing but merch as well. We would work with the Secretary of Athletics and the Secretary of Fun Times to ensure that student voices are heard when it comes to school spirit.

This is only the start. We want to explore new curriculums in Health (mental health, gender/sexuality inclusivity, etc.), guiding transitions to intensive classes, and addressing gender disparities within these classes.

We can’t wait for this journey and we look forward to working alongside you all to make our ideas a reality!!
