Hi Everyone!

We’re Erin and Yali, and we are so excited to be running to be your next FSG Co-Presidents!

Over our time at Fieldston, we have noticed a large disconnect both within and between grades in the Upper School, which the pandemic has only exacerbated. We aim to make Fieldston feel more like a community; we also believe that we cannot be a community if we are not valued as individuals.

For starters, we want to make individual students feel more supported in all aspects: physically, mentally, and academically. We want to increase the presence of affinity spaces in our community, as we believe that they are vital to making Fieldston a more equitable and safe institution. This means there would be more affinity space debriefs after assemblies and more affinity spaces in general. The experiences of all students at Fieldston are crucial to us, and we want to make sure that each and every student feels as though their voice is heard. As co-presidents, we will be sending out anonymous surveys once a month where students can express their concerns and give us feedback on our presidency. We will host monthly roundtables with affinity groups and club leaders to support their initiatives and ideas. We applaud the dedication of Students of Color Matter and are committed to working with them throughout the year and ensuring that their demands are upheld.

Our peers have expressed to us that they feel Fieldston lacks school spirit and a sense of community, especially after the pandemic; however, we aim to bring it back. We will organize more pep rallies to ensure that sports culture continues after the fall season. Our goal of five pep rallies per year will be enough to maintain school spirit from September to June. We also want to increase the number of special days, like ALPS and MADS, and plan Field Days across all four grades. Days off from our regular academic schedules are vital to our mental health, as they provide a break from the stressful year. We will work to plan an overnight trip for each grade and increase the amount of grade-wide field trips. Overall, we plan to revitalize the energy at Fieldston and bring together a community that has spent the last two years socially distanced.

We understand that as teenagers, we get hungry throughout the day. We will increase the presence of free snack stations around campus and bring back the Fieldston School Store. We will work with AVI to make sure that student opinions are valued in the dining experience. Healthy and accessible food options are essential to a productive work environment, so we would like to implement more food options throughout Fieldston.

Finally, we are working with Riverdeli to establish a student discount. We know how much you guys love the Yali Koch special, and it’s only fitting if we find a way to lower the price!
