How can your week be made more enjoyable? More food? Longer frees? Less homework? Year after year promises on these initiatives are made, but has your week ever actually gotten better? No. What will make your week better is being serenaded by a bell chosen by you, having a comfortable designated place to rest during your free periods, and having cute puppies waiting for you after a hard test. We promise you these deliverable initiatives.
We are Theo Chalker and Charlotte Cohen and we are dedicated to making your highschool experience simply sublime. Now, just for a second, close your eyes and imagine your happy place. What do you feel? Low stress, positive energy, and pure bliss. Now open your eyes. You just experienced Fieldston with us as your elected co-presidents. As members of Fieldston’s Females in Finance Organization, Tour Guide Leadership Team, Rube Goldberg Engineering Club, Mental Health Club, Asian American Affinity Group, school-based tutoring programs, multiple varsity sports teams, and more, we have a strong focus on being present in the Fieldston community. The extent of our involvement has exposed us to a diverse set of perspectives, experiences, and voices, and our ongoing, consistent commitments to Fieldston show our genuine devotion to the school and student body.
This presidency is grounded upon the cooperation of students and administration, and we are committed to representing your voice. After two long years of online school and Covid-controlled learning, we want to acknowledge that being digitally present is not enough, we need to be physically present in the community. We want to implement community based activities to bring people together. Everyone looks forward to being a part of the Fieldston traditions we have, so why not have more? Have you ever wanted to have a slumber party at school, have an “anything but a backpack” day, or play your teachers in Capture-The-Flag or another sport? Us too. In addition to introducing these new activities, another priority of ours is to establish clearer lines of communication between students and teachers regarding workload. The ambitious nature of Fieldston students often means rigorous schedules leaving them with little to no spare time. It is important for students to have an anonymous space to comfortably voice their struggles regarding teachers and classes. To address this, we will create a year-round confidential form that allows students to have the opportunity to share this information with us so that we can best resolve the issue.
These are some of our thoughts and ideas, but above all else we want your ideas to be the ones executed. We believe in the potential of Fieldston and want to make it a less stressful and more enjoyable environment. Let’s work together to create new and exciting traditions and initiatives that will have everyone looking forward to every day at Fieldston!
