The swim team hosted its fourth annual swim-a-thon for Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley on Wednesday, December 8th, raising a total of $2750.
The “Fieldston 2021 Kids-For-Wish-Kids Swim-A-Thon” was hosted by the entire swim team, but was led primarily by Margot Gordon (VI) and myself. Participating swimmers swam a total of over 100 laps, then swam some fun relays and played games in the water. After fundraising and swimming, the team came together to celebrate the moment with cookies and pizza from Sal’s.
Angie Wong (V) had a great time at the event. “It was so incredible to have the opportunity to connect with younger team members and watch the team bond as a whole. During COVID, it was hard for our team to get together and connect. This event was what we were missing. It also felt great to have fun while supporting such a noble cause.”
Erin Saunders (V) felt similarly. “The swim-a-thon is a great experience because I get to see the team come together to support a cause we feel passionate about.”
Tanner Vales ‘20 started the swim-a-thon tradition in 2019, and it has since become a highlight of the season for many swimmers. Additionally, Gordon reflected on the experience. “This year was such an amazing success! We raised nearly $3,000, double what we raised last year. I am so proud of all of the swimmers and appreciative of all of our donors.”
Make-A-Wish® is a foundation that creates, according to their website, “life-changing wishes for kids with critical illnesses.” They have granted wishes to over 330,000 children and the contributions of the swim team will certainly have an impact on more children.
Donations came in from students (on and not on the swim team), faculty, staff and families. We are extremely grateful for the community’s generosity and support!
