First Sessions: Senior Emma Rosenkranz’s First Album

On September 21, Emma Rosenkranz (VI) released her first album, “First Sessions,” which includes three singles titled “Still Thinking of You,” “Captive” and “Moonlit Memories.” All of these songs are currently available on Spotify, Soundcloud and Apple Music.

Rosenkranz said the inspiration for her music comes “from a myriad of places.” One such place consists of stars such as Barbara Streisand, who taught her that music comes from “confidence and connection” and that a song’s quality doesn’t depend solely upon physical attributes like instrumentals or vocals.

In “Still Thinking of You,” Rosenkranz addresses her father, who passed when she was 10 years old. Rosenkranz reaches her listeners with lyrics such as, “The days are as short as saying I don’t care, got you with me everywhere.”

When she was younger, Rosenkranz never predicted that she would record an album.

“First Sessions” proved to be a huge commitment for Rosenkranz. “I spent around 20 hours in rehearsal and around 70 hours in the studio,” she said. “From the small things, like making sure the cello sounded right, to the big things, like ensuring the message I wanted to convey was there –– it took a lot of dedication and time.”

Rosenkranz said that the best part about releasing her album was the feedback she received, which she believes displays that “music transcends age.” For instance, young kids have told Rosenkranz that they love the story in “Moonlight Memories,” and adults said they “connected to its message about living in the moment and never in regret.”

This common connection to music is a major reason why Rosenkranz produces songs –– to relate to people with similar experiences and to share parts of herself to people from different backgrounds.
