The Fieldston Golf Team completed a perfect 160 season on Wednesday, with a thrilling victory over Horace Mann. With this victory, Fieldston Golf Team won the Ivy League for a 5th time, and for a third straight year. This undefeated season included 5 shutout victories, and 13 of 16 matches won by 5 or more points. The State match was played at Hampshire Country Club under difficult weather conditions. The cold and strong winds made it difficult to judge distances and the greens were playing fast. In the end, the golf team prevailed, winning its fourth state title. Six Varsity team members competed in the NYSAIS match. They were Senior cocaptains, Sam Millstein and Daniel Melcher, along with Kolbein Finsnes and Andrew GarciaBou (V) and Ethan Schondorf and Jake Rabinowitz (IV).
The team’s depth was the reason for its success. Our team was comprised of the strongest six golfers in the league. No one could match up against such a solid group. The golf team will miss seniors Sam Millstein and Daniel Melcher, who were state champions throughout their entire golf careers. However, there are several other young team members who will have the opportunity to continue the Fieldston Golf dynasty and their dominance of the Ivy League.
