This season, the Fieldston varsity basketball team has won 3 games and lost 4. Savannah Stern has made 63 percent of her shots from the floor, 75 percent of her three point shots, and 94 percent of her free throws. On average, she makes 3 assists and 2 steals per game.
Savannah has been playing varsity basketball for Fieldston since freshman year. She spent her first two years at Fieldston as a point guard, but she now plays primarily as a shooting guard. After switching positions, she has gained much more confidence that has allowed her to “shoot a lot more shots per game” than she used to.
When asked what job she would compare her position on the court to, she answered that being a shooting guard is like being “a FedEx truck driver, ‘cause I always deliver.’”
When Savannah is not playing basketball, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, among other things.
“In the spring I play softball, I lift (gotta stay on that grind), and I take broadcast journalism. I love film and it’s definitely something I want to pursue in college,” she said.
Savannah’s favorite documentary is Coming Back with Wes Moore, a three-part movie about the difficulties a returning war veteran faces transitioning back to a regular lifestyle. She is currently in the process of making her own documentary about people with breast cancer.
“The goal of my documentary,” she says, “is to express to people that while optimism and hope can be good when facing the disease, this culture often makes people who have breast cancer feel like they have to hide their feelings.”
