The Fashionable Men of Fieldston

4 mins read

It’s no secret that the fashion industry tends to focus on females. The most famous fashion writers, stylists, models, and icons are more often than not, female. In this brief style profile we will recognize four of the many stylish guys in the Fieldston community with whom we discussed their style inspirations, must-have items, and more.

Dugan Zier

Dugan is wearing Timberland boots and a hockey jersey. “If I had to define my style I’d describe it as ‘sporty casual’…with a twist.” After some thought, he added “my must-have item is definitely soccer cleats.” As he leans back in his chair at an independent study corral, a cool nonchalance comes across in his outfit. ” I don’t have a style icon, I do me. I’m a big online shopper. I like Polo, J. Crew, and Billy Reid’s.” The librarian notices more than one person at the corral and gives an aggravated “shhh”, Dugan lowers his voice accordingly and concludes, “my attitude towards fashion is basically whatever happens happens. I keep it simple.”

Paul Bergman and Gabriel Gutierrez

The dynamic duo, dare I say “power couple,” provides interesting insight into each other’s style. “Paul’s pants selection is superb, he kills the pants game”, Gabe says proudly. Paul smiles and shrugs “I’d have to agree,” motioning towards his baby blue pants. Paul describes Gabe’s style as “suave, pure elegance. As for Paul, “class, in its rawest form. Clean, well cut, fits his body very well…” Gabe says.

Paul notes Gabe’s signature item as his hair “it’s the guideline to his daily style, his outfit depends on how his hair is that day.” Gabe says Paul’s are his signature glasses and Tod’s.

When asked about Gabe’s style icon, Paul answered without hesitation, “Me.” As for Paul, Gabe says, ASAP Rocky, “but he will never be able to dress like ASAP Rocky.” The boys admit to occasionally borrowing each other’s things. Using strong air quotes Paul says that Gabe “borrows” his stuff and often ends up keeping it. Gabe shamelessly confesses “I’m usually the borrower. I tend to steal his stuff.” For the transition from day wear to party wear, Gabe suggest “a button up, sometimes a sweater over in the winter. You can’t wear nice shoes. Girls don’t care about your shoes in the dark.” Paul agrees and adds that the the button up shirt inevitably becomes “increasingly less buttoned throughout the night.”

Paul shares his appreciation for the fact that Gabe “never slacks”  and even  “makes [him] feel insecure.” Gabe chalks It up to wanting to “help people with [his] style.

Gus Pope

The stylish and mysterious Gus pope describes his style as “unique, rebellious, and street.” In two words, “hood pope.” His necessities include his bomber jacket, white Air Force 1 shoes, skinny jeans, and an expansive collection of plain t-shirts. His style inspirations currently range from Kid Cudi to ASAP Rocky to “the kid” himself. Stores Gus frequents include Atrium, A.P.C., Opening Ceremony, Uniqlo, and various eBay vendors. He also designs and creates clothes himself and feels that “anyone can be a fashion designer if they commit themselves to it.” His token fashion advice: “doing you is the most important thing.” General tips include “everyone looks good in all black, never wear top heavy outfits, and function always over fashion.” Gus’ favorite fashion related quote is from Oscar Wilde who said,”fashion is a form of ugliness so unbearable we have to change it every 6 months.”
