When the Whistle Blows

In Dina Weinberg’s English classes, 7th grade students looked for images of coming-of-age in the text When the Whistle Blows by Fran Slayton, and images of coming-of-age in their own lives. Each student chose one image from his or her life and created a watercolor of that image. They then put them together to form coming-of-age image “quilts.” 1
